2009 marks the fourth year of the annual SF Shorts: The San Francisco International Festival of Short Films, a celebration of the rebellious nature at the heart of all great filmmaking. With a line-up of over 60 films and music videos from 19 countries, SF Shorts delights in screening a range of films so wide viewers will have trouble getting their arms, and heads, around it. This year's film selections hail from all parts of the globe. Nearly half of the films are from outside the US, representing 20 countries. Six programs of short films mix genres and topics ranging from love, sports, travel, urban culture, violence, politics, race, environment, and family.

Go back few more centuries and into another continent, to a country fair in late-1500s England where a rising young star of London's theatre scene, Will Shakespeare, faces a scourge like no other: a paralyzing bout of writer's block. This year's theme for the Ardenwood Shakespeare Festival & Renaissance Faire will be Shakespeare's Muse. Ardenwood Historic Farms will be transformed to a delightful Elizabethan town filled with myriad characters and vignettes resembling those of Shakespeare's plays. In addition, over 600 costumed entertainers and over 100 shopkeepers and artisans will add to the ambience of the Faire. The faire will feature three stages of continuous entertainment, Queen Elizabeth’s court, Shakespearian plays and vignettes, expertly staged battle scenes and theatrical performances, lively crafts marketplace, storytelling for children and adults, belly dancers, archery tournaments and much more. There will be merchants selling a wide array of arts and craft including one of a kind jewelry items, woodcrafts, artwork, ceramics, clothing, hats, accessories and historic weapons.

This long running, highly competitive juried art festival attracts 130 artists from as far as Hawaii and New York and thousands of art lovers who come to enjoy their art. Visitors can stroll through the Park and discover treasures under the trees: Sculpture, painting, ceramics, photography, textiles, woodwork, over 15 media categories to appeal to all artistic tastes on view and for sale.  The Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival always features two full days of fine musical entertainment and children’s activities and fantastic food benefiting local non-profits.  Headlining on the music stage is Maria Muldaur on Saturday and Tom Rigney & Flambeau on Sunday.  The popular Children’s stage will feature Fratello Marionettes, Dan Chan the Magic Man, and Miss Kitty to name just a few performers. Festival goers are encouraged to park away from downtown and take the free shuttle buses, which run continuously from twelve bus stops around Mill Valley.

The Fog Fest is a two-day Music and Arts & Crafts Festival, with over 190 arts and crafts booths, 3 stages of live entertainment, and plenty of tasty food and drink to please any appetite. The Fog Fest was created in 1986 to promote Pacifica and to celebrate our marvelous coastal climate. The last full weekend of September was chosen because historically the weather is unbeatable. Kick off the event on Saturday morning at 10 am with the Pacifica Parade and Marching Band Competition. Sunday afternoon the Family Fun Fest will again feature games, contests, crafts, face painting, and junk car decorating. Throughout the weekend, world champion sand sculptors from Sandscapes will be designing an amazing sand sculpture from 25 tons of sand. The Fog Fest has joined other festivals around the country in its commitment to lessen its environmental footprint.
