A.C.T. Young Conservatory (YC) proudly presents Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple of Inishmaan. Three teenagers living on a tiny island off the coast of Ireland in 1933 dream of escaping the dreary confines of their lives, but no one more so than “Cripple” Billy, a disabled orphan and village outcast. When the local gossip spreads the news that a Hollywood film crew is shooting a movie on a neighboring island, the three teens set sail to try for a role in the film—but Billy embarks on an altogether different kind of journey. This dark comedy by Tony Award–winning Irish writer Martin McDonagh, writer and director of the hit film In Bruges, delivers witty banter, piercing dialogue, and a cast of local characters as genuinely likable as they are imperfect, brilliantly performed by A.C.T.’s Young Conservatory. A talented group of young Bay Area actors makes up the cast of The Cripple of Inishmaan. The cast features Stephen Cirillo, Kayla Cushway (International High School), Lucie Fleming (Marin Academy), Christopher Garber (Crystal Springs Upland School), Owen Keith (Drew Preparatory), Kathryn Rich (Miramonte High School), Soren Royer-McHugh (Burlingame High School), Zack Scott, and Sarah Yarkin (Piedmont High School).

Marin Theatre Company is delighted to present the comedy BOOM by award-winning Marin native Peter Sinn Nachtrieb. BOOM received its world premiere at Ars Nova in New York in 2008, and has been produced at Woolly Mammoth, Seattle Rep, and Cleveland Public Theatre to critical acclaim. In addition to MTC’s Bay Area premiere, BOOM will be one of the most produced plays nationally during the 2009-10 season, with productions at 12 other theater companies around the U.S. In this explosive comedy about the end of the world, Jo answers a casual encounters ad for “sex to change the course of the world.” She has no idea that grad student Jules actually fears the apocalypse is at hand and is looking for a partner to repopulate the species. That he’s gay and she hates babies is the least of their problems.

"Entrancing tale that delivers a most unusual Christmas miracle" - Broadwayworld.com The men who make their way home for the holidays in THE SEAFARER aren't exactly looking forward to sharing a cup of cheer. But a stranger in their midst, in town to collect a major poker debt, forces them to take a look at their lives - and where they'll end up if they're not more careful. This Tony Award-winner is a darkly funny examination of Ireland's culture of drinking and the arguable states of grace achieved by those who embrace it.

The name OVO means "egg" in Portuguese. This timeless symbol of the life cycle and birth of numerous insects represents the underlying thread of the show. Graphically, OVO hides an insect in its name: The two letter "Os" represent the eyes while the letter "V" forms the nose. Cirque du Soleil’s latest big top production, OVO is a headlong rush into a colourful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects' home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments of quiet emotion. When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives. It’s love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye – and the feeling is mutual. A cast of 54 performing artists from 13 countries will make the teeming world of these quirky critters come alive. A stunning trapeze act employing the skills of six flyers is the biggest of its kind ever presented under Cirque du Soleil’s distinctive blue and yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top). The finale features 20 artists running, jumping and leaping straight up a 26-foot vertical wall.

After traveling the globe for his first play, “Circumnavigator,” and studying Nigerian oil politics for his third, “Tings Dey Happen,” this time Hoyle is back in the United States, turning his eye and ear on America’s culture wars. Fleeing the liberal bubble of San Francisco and his hipster friends, Hoyle spent 100 days traveling through small-town America in search of some tough country wisdom and a way to bridge America’s urban/rural divide. Instead, Hoyle found himself immersed in the populist anger of the people whom Sarah Palin famously described as ‘The Real Americans’ and awed at the disconnect between Obama Nation and Palin Country. Portrayed with humor, sympathy, confusion, angst and song, this vivid performance challenges the audience to move beyond their bafflement and engage with the future of a politically polarized America.

This extraordinary theatrical event from four-time Tony Award winner Tom Stoppard makes its South Bay debut. It's August 1968, and Russian tanks are rolling in to Prague. Jan, a Czech student, lives for rock music; Max, an English professor, lives for Communism; and Esme, the flower child, is high. By 1990, the tanks are rolling out, the Stones are rolling in and idealism has hit the wall. Stoppard's sweeping and passionate play spans two countries, three generations and 22 turbulent years, at the end of which, love remains-and so does rock 'n' roll.
